If you live with us, you live in the heart of Dresden's Neustadt. The district is colourful, lively and full of corners you only discover at second glance. Here are five walks that start right outside the door on Königsbrücker Straße.
1. Alaunpark
The big park of the outer Neustadt is quickly reached on foot. Neighbours, families and students meet on its lawns, and small cafés line the edges. A good place for an evening stroll.
2. Kunsthofpassage
Between Alaunstraße and Görlitzer Straße lies a series of courtyards designed by artists. The best known is the Courtyard of the Elements: when it rains, the drainpipes on its facade make music. Around it you will find small shops, workshops and cafés.
3. Albertplatz and Hauptstraße
From Albertplatz with its two fountains, Hauptstraße leads as a wide avenue towards the Elbe. At Neustadt market the Golden Rider shines, the equestrian statue of Augustus the Strong. By tram it is only a few stops away.
4. Along the Elbe
From the Neustadt bank of the Elbe you look across to the old town with the Frauenkirche, the Hofkirche and the Semperoper – the view the painter Canaletto made famous. The Elbe meadows invite you to walk and cycle, especially in the evening.
5. Pfunds Molkerei
On Bautzner Straße there is a dairy shop decorated entirely with hand-painted tiles. Pfunds Molkerei is considered one of the most beautiful dairy shops in the world. A short visit is worthwhile, even without a shopping list.
Getting around without a car
Tram lines 7, 8 and 13 and Dresden-Neustadt station take you quickly in every direction. Much of the Neustadt, however, is best explored on foot.
